Week 1 of Inktober

Inktober is an artist’s challenge to draw in ink every day during October. Usually, artists will follow an official prompt list, or make their own.

I don’t do that. I pick a theme and draw to it.

In 2017, I drew Witches. In 2018, Gods & Spirits. 2019 – Dragons. Then I collected those sketches into books. In 2020, I drew Landscapes and Cats. 2021 – I drew a comic panel every day and it became Puzzlespell (coming to PDF very soon).

This year, I’m drawing my characters! These folks are from my comics, written works, and roleplaying games. At the end of the month, I fully intend on collecting these sketches into a new art book.

Without further ado, I’d like to share with you the first week of Inktober sketches – up to Day 6.

Here’s Day 1 – Acrudon, a former demon turned human from The Case of the Wendigo and the upcoming Vanita & The Demon King (working title).

inktober day 1 show s a sketchbook page. In it stands a bearded man in a tacky shirt and baggy red pants carrying a box of sundries.

Follow that up with Day 2 – Claudia, a witch and Acrudon’s partner from The Case of the Wendigo and the upcoming Vanita & The Demon King (working title).

inktober day 2 is a young woman in a dress covered in cloud patterns. She has red hair and a pregnant belly.

Then, Day 3 – Vanita, a witch from the upcoming Vanita & The Demon King (working title).

inktober day 3 shows a pale young trans woman in a camisole and jogging shorts.

Here’s Day 4 – Clow, a guardian angel from Charlie & Clow, Charlie & Clow: The Bonus Arc, The Case of the Wendigo, and the upcoming Vanita & The Demon King (working title).

On Day 5 – Basho’s twin brother, [REDACTED], a dragon from The Legend of Jamie Roberts. (By the way, volume 1 is available in my shop).

Finally, for this week, Day 6 – Prince Malus, a shadow elf from my current campaign of Dungeons & Dragons. He also stars in The Prince of Shadows (a work in progress).

More sketches will be shared next Thursday! In the meantime, keep an eye on my Instagram and YouTube channels. I do live streams on those platforms showing off how I draw these sketches.

That’s all for now. Thank you for checking in!

Ramses II – Fighting Game Concept Art

This year I have been drawing concept art of fighting game characters. Previously, I posted live streams. Today, I’m sharing a finished art piece – Ramses II.

Ramses II in this conceptual fighting game would be the Zoner archetype. Zoners are very good at keeping their distance and striking with long-range blows. The drawback is they don’t have very much overall health. Frieza from Dragonball Fighterz and Peacock from Skullgirls fall under this archetype.

(For context, I borrowed a lot of these fighting game definitions from pages like this one on Gamerant.)

If you would like to watch how I drew Ramses II, check out this video on Youtube or on this blog. I drew him at every step in Clip Studio Paint.

You can watch me draw live on Twitch, or catch the archived streams on YouTube.

The Puppet Master – Fighting Game Concept Art

an elf with dark brown skin sits in the air, wearing a neon green mask made of wood. Behind her floats an ethereal masked spirit with enlarged, clawed hands.

This year I have been drawing concept art of fighting game characters. Previously, I posted live streams. Today, I’m sharing a finished art piece – the Puppet Master character.

Puppet Master is a fighting game archetype in the character roster. Their gimmick is that they are a fighter who also controls a puppet. For this character, I decided to play with the idea of a “puppet” and make the controlled character a spirit.

My first draft was closer in concept to the Earth spirit dancers of the Bwa people in Burkina Faso. But I decided to revisit the idea and draft a few more takes. I’m very pleased with how this turned out.

If you would like to see the process of drawing this piece, check out this stream archived on YouTube and here on the blog. Each step got done in Clip Studio Paint.

Charlie, the All-Rounder – Fighting Game Concept Art

This is Charlie!

This character stars in my comics Charlie & Clow, Charlie & Clow: The Bonus Arc, and The Case of the Wendigo. I also decided to include her in a fighting game concept as part of the character line-up.

To me it only makes sense. In the comics, she’s a student of Tae Kwon Do. So why not have her put that to use in a fighting game?

She was the first character I drew as part of the character line-up for this game idea. After sketching a few ideas, I went with this pose. It captures her attitude well, I think. And then I drew her in every stage on Clip Studio Paint. (This was before I discovered the timelapse feature in Clip Studio, so sadly, I have no timelapse animation of drawing her, like I do most of the other characters).

I’ll be posting more character art as time goes on. So stay tuned!

If you would like to watch me draw these characters, I do live streams on Twitch on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 2 pm EST. So be sure to tune in sometime! Like, today even! Of course, I don’t stream if I’m out of town or sick, but I do my best to let you know ahead of time about schedule changes.

That’s all for now. Thank you for reading!

Comicon at Home – An Archived Twitch Live Stream

This originally aired on my Twitch channel on August 14. Why a Sunday? Because I had plans to be at a local, one-day comicon…but they canceled the show without notifying me.

So I went, “FINE! I’ll set my work up at home and stream it online! We’ll have more fun, anyway!” And then we did. Comicon at home was a success!

Everything (or dang near everything) I show in this stream is available on my Ko-Fi shop!

By the way – I extended the Dragon Baby Pride Keychain campaign! You now have until Sept 18 to get one of your own. I go into why I extended the window in a recent campaign update.

Thank you for watching.
