Week 1 of Inktober

Inktober is an artist’s challenge to draw in ink every day during October. Usually, artists will follow an official prompt list, or make their own.

I don’t do that. I pick a theme and draw to it.

In 2017, I drew Witches. In 2018, Gods & Spirits. 2019 – Dragons. Then I collected those sketches into books. In 2020, I drew Landscapes and Cats. 2021 – I drew a comic panel every day and it became Puzzlespell (coming to PDF very soon).

This year, I’m drawing my characters! These folks are from my comics, written works, and roleplaying games. At the end of the month, I fully intend on collecting these sketches into a new art book.

Without further ado, I’d like to share with you the first week of Inktober sketches – up to Day 6.

Here’s Day 1 – Acrudon, a former demon turned human from The Case of the Wendigo and the upcoming Vanita & The Demon King (working title).

On Day 5 – Basho’s twin brother, [REDACTED], a dragon from The Legend of Jamie Roberts. (By the way, volume 1 is available in my shop).

Finally, for this week, Day 6 – Prince Malus, a shadow elf from my current campaign of Dungeons & Dragons. He also stars in The Prince of Shadows (a work in progress).

One Campaign Closes, Another Begins, and Yet Another Still Goes…

I did not mention this before, but The Legend of Jamie Roberts, volume 1 was not the only KickStarter on my roster.

NeverEnding, Inc has been running a campaign to expand the character builder’s offerings. And they have just 11 days left! They’re pretty close to their next stretch goal, too. So go check out the campaign if you can. Pledge, spread the word – support it however you can!

Plus, another campaign will launch THIS Saturday, April 3. This one is run by my good comics buddy, Ben Wright-Heuman, and his co-creator friend Rainer Kannestine. The project?

Less Than Secret: A Cryptid Comic Anthology.

I contributed a short story about the Mothman. And there’s seven other stories about other cryptids to boot!

To celebrate the launch, I’m hosting a livestream on my YouTube channel! Hope you can join us Saturday, April 3 at 12 noon EDT. Yes, “us,” because the creators from the anthology will be joining me on the stream.

Expect livestreams every Thursday and Saturday during the month of April – I’ll be interviewing the creators who contributed to the anthology project.

If you helped bring The Legend of Jamie Roberts, volume 1 to completion, I’ll be posting updates on the regular on its KickStarter page.

Validation’s Final Push on KickStarter

Those of you who are on my email newsletter, as well as on Facebook and Tumblr, know that Validation’s Final Push launched June 1st.

This KickStarter campaign launched to get funding to help Christian and me make the final pages of the webcomic Validation.

Let me make one thing clear: yes, we have a Patreon page. But keep this in mind:

Christian has been paying me out of her own pocket to make comics every week for the last 5 years. The Patreon has helped give Christian a small writing stipend, but it’s not enough to cover the full cost of this comic (from paying me, to web hosting, etc.).

So, we started the KickStarter campaign to get us over the edge.

And over the edge we went!

Because holy dang, our initial asking goal was $500 and you met that goal within 2 HOURS of launch!

We made our first stretch goal of $1000 before the weekend started! As I’m writing this, we’re right on the cusp of making the $1500 stretch goal!

I think it helps that the rewards are fun. At least two of them include getting drawn in one of the final pages of Validation!

Another thing is that some of the prints available have been out of print. One of these prints is “In Her Wildest Dreams.”

This baby has been out of print for quite some time. But now it’s available for KickStarter backers as a reward.

If you’re interested in helping this KickStarter camaign, there’s still time to pledge. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be the one who helps us reach that next stretch goal!

Commissioned Piece Made for Luke and Mel

commission piece luke and mel lgbtq communityLuke (left) and Mel (right) are both members of the local (to me) LGBTQ community, and both LOVE Johnson & Sir. Luke commissioned me to make a portrait of the both of them to look like characters that would pop out of the comic, and I said yes.

Look how it turned out!

An Evening of Inclusion – Or, I’m a Model Now

On February 2, the photography show “An Evening of Inclusion” went up at the Artisan Center in Wheeling, WV, and will stay on display until February 16. The photography show (done in collaboration with the local YWCA) is a showcase of out-and-proud LGBTQ citizens who live and work in the Wheeling area. Next to each photo is a biography of the person written by a friend or loved one.
